VII. Intangible Cultural Heritage Winter School was held between 18-21 January 2024 at Balıkesir City Council hosted by the Governorship and Municipality of Balıkesir with the cooperation of UNESCO National Commission for Turkey, Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality and UNESCO accredited Intangible Cultural Heritage Association, with the academic support of AHBV University Turkish Folklore Application and Research Center and AHBV University UNESCO Chair on Intangible Cultural Heritage in Formal and Non-Formal Education, Balıkesir University Department of Turkish Language and Literature and Ege University Institute of Turkish World Studies.
Since 2017, the theme of this year’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Winter School, which has been organized around different themes every year since 2017, has been determined as the evaluation of the contribution to the protection, survival and transfer of intangible cultural heritage to future generations through graduate education, starting from the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention in 2003.
The VII Intangible Cultural Heritage Winter School started with the opening speeches of Prof. Dr. M. Öcal OĞUZ, President of the National Commission for UNESCO Turkey, Prof. Dr. Yücel OĞURLU, Rector of Balıkesir University and Mehmet Birol ŞAHİN, Deputy Mayor of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality. Then the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Balıkesir Panel was organized. Greeting speech was made by Yücel YILMAZ, Mayor of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality.
In the program, which continued with the presentations of our esteemed folklorist academicians, the participants had the opportunity to experience the elements of intangible cultural heritage within the scope of linden printing art and Barana Tradition program.
The second day of the school started with presentations on intangible cultural heritage and civil society organizations in higher education. In the Intangible Cultural Heritage According to the Participants Panel, participants shared information about their master’s and doctoral theses. The program ended with the presentation of certificates of participation and contribution.
