On the occasion of the 27th anniversary of his death, Mustafa Düzgünman, one of the milestones of Turkish marbling art, was remembered with a program organized by the Traditional Arts Association.
The Traditional Arts Association, within the scope of “Fidelity to Tradition” programs for the purpose of commemorating the masters who contributed greatly to the promotion and development of these arts through their work in the field of traditional arts, commemorated Mustafa Düzgünman who contributed greatly to the Turkish marbling art.
The commemoration program started on Tuesday, September 12th at 10:00 am with the recitation of the Quran in the grave of Düzgünman in Karacaahmet Cemetery. The program continued at 11.00 at the Altunizade Cultural Center, with the guests attending the commemoration. In the Cultural Center, a seminar about the life and works of the master was given by Alparslan Babaoğlu.
Ahmet Yüksel Özemre’s work “An Attar Shop in Üsküdar” was presented to the participants after the conversation. The shop named in this work is known for belonging to the Düzgünman family. Artists and academics participated in the memorial program of Mustafa Düzgünman, who contributed greatly to the development of Turkish marbling art with his life and works, and brought up a lot of demands.
Who is Mustafa Düzgünman?
He was born on the 9th February 1920 in Sultantepe, Üsküdar, Istanbul. His father is Saim Efendi. After completing his first education, he started to work in his father’s attar shop in Üsküdar bazaar. In 1938, his mother’s uncle calligrapher Necmeddin Okyay enrolled him at the Turkish Decoration (Tezyinî) Arts Department of the State Academy of Fine Arts, but after a while due to his living conditions, he left school and returned to his father’s profession.
Especially since 1957, he continued his occupation with marbling until his death. Düzgünman added chamomile to the flowering marbling varieties that his teacher Necmeddin Okyay brought to this art, who said that he went beyond him in marbling, and also improved the flower shapes. During his marbling arts years, which started in 1940 and lasted for fifty years until his death, Düzgünman, who has been opening various exhibitions since 1967 and participating in some exhibitions, has left his mark on the marbling arts of the last thirty-five years with his works and students who he trained.
The tomb of Mustafa Düzgünman, who died on Wednesday, September 12, 1990, is in the Karacaahmet Cemetery.
